- Enclosure & Base 5 Stars : Backwall kit 2 Stars. Review by Crunch

While choosing a shower unit I had been to Lowes and Home Depot where the display models had taken a beating but showed up the weakness of the 'glass area'. I could see the doors and glass panels would trap dirt and grime and be a mold mess in short time. Also doors were no longer working correctly.Price Value Quality
I took the plunge on the DL-6163 after looking at the images. A risk due to shipping costs etc. I liked the idea of free standing glass for the doors.
Unit came well packaged on a double pallet.
The first thing I didn't like was the back corner panel. It was thin, very thin where my daughter would be putting her bottles of shampoo etc. If that corner panel was made like the base, I would have used it. I could see it cracking and having a water issue behind the shower stall. I changed over to my backup plan of tile and a corner shower caddy for her items. The 5 stars for quality is for rest of unit.
The base was very solid well constructed and set in the thin set well. Cannot stress how important that you have shower base level and walls at right angles to base. It took a bit of extra work to get there but mine was perfect.
When I put unit together and up to the wall I didn't need to do any adjusting. The shower frame fitted into the wall channels perfect. Once the side glass was in place the unit was extremely solid. I used minimal sealant under channels to wall and track at bottom. Silicon oozing out looks terrible and seems to attract dirt.
The doors went on perfect and needed no adjusting. The magnetic door seals lined up first time. I did find you need to put one upside down so they lock together. Not a fault it’s the way they go but not mentioned in instructions.
If I had purchased just the base and enclosure and not the backwall kit, I would be giving this unit 5 stars. My wife was very impressed after being a bit nervous about purchasing sight unseen. Couple of neighbors have given it a shake and eye over and were impressed.
How it does over time will be the real test.
I used a 8 inch square rain shower head on a 15 inch arm for this enclosure. I don't like the way water from a regular 45 degree shower hits one side of unit all the time, blasting soap etc into any joints.
We are very happy with is unit and the service we recieved from MainFaucet.
