STEP 1: Choose a Door Type & Design

Typically you have three kinds of shower doors to choose from: shower doors, bathtub doors, and shower enclosures. Which type you choose depends on what works the best with your bathroom space.

I. Shower Door

Also called Alcove or Stand-Alone, this type of shower door is best for those bathrooms which have the shower built into the wall. Among our selection of shower doors, you will find the traditional framed door and frameless doors, which offer more of a modern look.

II. Bathtub Door

The bathtub door is best suited for shower and tub combinations. You’ll notice as you browse through our selection of bathtub doors that there are two types of doors.

  • Partial Door: One version is a partial bathtub door. This type only reaches to part of the length of the bathtub, preventing the escape of water from the area around the shower head. this type of door gives your bathroom a modern minimalist feel.
  • Full-length Door: The other type of bathtub door you will find is the traditional full length door that reaches the entire length of the tub.

II. Shower Enclosures

Also known as a corner installation, these doors are great for those bathrooms that only have two walls that form a right angle to accommodate your shower instead of an alcove. You will find three different shapes to choose from:

  • Right Angle Enclosure: As the name suggests, right angle enclosures create a rectangular or square shape once installed and are great if you are looking to replace a bathtub.
  • Neo Angle Enclosure: The neo angle enclosure creates a shape that resembles a baseball diamond or Superman symbol. This is a perfect space-saving solution for smaller bathrooms.
  • Quarter Round Enclosure: The quarter round enclosure may also be considered a neo angle closure. However, instead of having straight outer edges, the quarter round enclosure features a beautiful curve. This is a great choice for smaller bathrooms where you are looking to conserve space.

STEP 2: Choose a Door Opening

The type of door opening you choose, is very much dependent on the space available in your bathroom. If you have a smaller space to work with, you might want to stay away from the swinging door which takes up unnecessary space unlike a sliding door. However, if you have a larger bathroom then the type of door opening you choose depends on your personal space. Here are three different type of door openings you will find:

I. Swinging Shower Doors

Also known as hinged or pivot doors, this door opening does exactly as the name suggests and swings outward. These types of doors are great for bathrooms which have ample room to accommodate an open door. You can find a swinging door with multiple panels for larger shower openings or single panels for small showers. II. Sliding Shower Doors

A sliding shower door does as the name suggests as well and slides along a track. One type of sliding shower door you might find combines one or more stationary panel with a sliding panel. Another type is called a bypass door. This type of door is made of of two separate panels that can each slide all the way to the right or left right over each other, allowing you to enter the shower from any side. Sliding doors are a fabulous solution for smaller bathrooms that don’t have enough room for a swinging door. III. Bi-fold Shower Doors

The accordian-like bi-fold shower door is another space saving solution. Instead of folding outwards and taking up precious bathroom space like a swinging shower door, the bi-fold door slides and folds into the shower space, leaving you free to move about with plenty of room outside of the shower. STEP 3: Measure your Space

 Before selecting your door, you will have to make sure it fits the dimensions of your shower opening. If your bathroom space is being renovated or is new, be sure to wait to measure until the bathroom walls are completely finished. Wall materials can make a difference in your wall-to-wall measurements.

Always measure at least two times to insure that your measurements are completely accurate. This is important because an error in measurement can result in your shower door not fitting correctly when installation is attempted.

Here are some instructions on how to measure properly for a shower door or shower enclosure:

How to Measure for a Shower or Bathtub Door

  •  To get the width, measure from wall to wall in three places.

A. Top: 72″ above the shower base

B. Bottom: Shower base

C. Middle: Half the distance of A & B

  • Check for straight (plumb) walls with a level.
  • Once you measure A, B, & C and find that they are the same and the walls are straight, order a door to fit the width you got.
  • If those three measurements are not equal or the walls are not straight, make sure to order a door that is can be adjusted to fit out-of-plumb walls.

How to Measure for a Shower Enclosure

To measure your shower enclosure refer to steps of the type of enclosure you plan on installing.

Neo Angle

A. Measure the width along the wall from the corner of the finished wall to the end of the opening/threshold

B. Measure the width along the exterior of the opening/threshold from the finished wall to the end of the angle.

C. Measure the height from the top of the wall to the top of the base

Quarter Round

A. Measure the width along the wall from the corner of the finished wall to the end of the opening/threshold

B. Measure the width along the exterior of the opening/threshold from the finished wall to the point where the base starts to curve

C. Measure the height from the top of the wall to the top of the base

Right Angle

A. Measure the width along the wall from the corner of the finished wall to the end of the opening/threshold

B. Measure the height from the top of the wall to the top of the base

STEP 4: Find Your Style
